The Latest Innovations in Kitchen Cabinets

All kitchen cabinets are made from the same basic components: doors and drawers, hinges and finish, wood and metal. The ways in which they vary, however, is where you’ll find the magic. You see, behind those doors and inside those drawers, kitchen cabinetry has been enjoying a quiet revolution. The result is a transformation from dark places to shove your cookware, into spaces that are beautifully organized and creatively utilized.

Below, we’ve collected some of our favorite kitchen cabinetry innovations. They’ll keep your counters clutter-free, help you locate kitchen tools quickly and easily, and turn cooking into a celebration, rather than a chore. Remember: when it comes to custom kitchen cabinets, the only limit is your imagination.

Fold Out Storage:  This clever storage option mounts folding racks on ball bearing slides, so it is easy to open and roll out. Cabico’s Swing Out Susan offers an excellent way to eliminate wasted space in the darkest corners of your cabinets, while making items a cinch to reach.

Custom Recycling Center:  The fastest way to ruin a clean and modern remodel is by stacking a row of recycling bins by the door. Instead, turn a base corner cabinet into a chic recycling center by installing a revolving rack that holds up to three small bins. It will allow you to “go green” seamlessly, while keeping recycling containers out of sight.

Lift-Up Cabinet Doors:  Anyone can slap some hinges on a cabinet and call it a day, but for truly innovative doors, it pays to look in another direction. Namely, up. Lift-up cabinet doors  allow you to do just that. They’ll also put an end to bumping and banging cabinet doors, and allow easier access to the goodies within. Plus they remind us of the Batmobile, which is never a bad thing!

Cookbook Recipe Organizer: Cookbooks should be kept close to the kitchen, but stored in a place where they’re safe from clouds of flour, grease splatters, and bread crumbs. A cabinet rack is a beautiful way to keep them out of harm’s way, while openly displaying their inspiring cover art.

Pantry in a Door or a Drawer: If you’ve always dreamt of a walk-in pantry but don’t have the space, this option is just as good. In some ways it’s even better, since you’re able to pull your pantry toward you, instead of walking inside it. The endless combinations of wire storage and pull out shelves allow you to store many items, and because the units are customizable, they make better use of the space than traditional shelves.

Appliance Garage: While the word “garage” might not seem very luxurious, the concept of the appliance garage is. Bringing the upper cabinets all the way down to the countertop creates a convenient nook for appliances, which are then kept out of sight by a roll-up door that resembles something you’d find in a garage.  They’re an especially great use for corners, where space is often wasted.

Self-Closing Drawers: A quick push will close these drawers gently and quietly, avoiding the noisy bang that traditional drawers emit when slammed shut. While this might seem like a small detail, it’s precisely the kind of customized convenience that will take your kitchen to the next level.

Electric Charging Station: A modern luxury that’s quickly becoming a necessity, charging stations are appearing in kitchens everywhere. Similar to the types found in desks, they can be hidden in cabinets or mounted on islands. A strategically placed charging station will make it easier than ever to read recipes off your iPad and Instagram your latest culinary creation.
